Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Preview Part 3

PART 3 of 3

US: March 9, 2008
Europe:
TBA 2008
Japan:
Out Now

In the final part of this preview, we'll be covering the remaining game modes, and a few surprises such as the Masterpieces section and the Stage Builder. Without any further ado, let's jump into the remaining content:

Events Mode

Raise your hand if you spent countless hours trying to beat every event challenge in Melee... Oh wait, I can't see your hands, but I'm sure just about everyone that is reading this made the attempt. Well they're back and this time around Nintendo has actually been kind enough to provide a difficulty slider. So whether you're a complete newbie or an absolute badass at Smash Brothers there's a difficulty mode for you. This also adds a lot of replayability for new players to the series. There's no word yet on whether or not characters will be unlockable as they were before in Melee.

The Event Challenge Slider - Choose Your Battle

The Difficulty Slider Is A Very Nice Addition

Mario Has To Stop Both King Bowser and King Dedede!

Blast Kirby off before the platform lands on the Halberd!

Destroy All The Terrain In Skyworld, Just Watch Out For Wario!

You Have To Egg Lay Both Enemies Simultaneously!

A Stamina Based Match Between Link and Shadow Link!

Classic Mode

This is your classic Single Player mode. You battle through different stages and you beat the CPU controlled opponents till the end of the of the game. Sounds simple right? Of course it's not going to be that easy. While each Level or Stage has a theme like Pokemon or The Legend of Zelda you'll randomly be challenged in different ways. One battle might feature Metal enemies, another might be a Giant Bowser, or even a team of Pokemon!

The Stage Opening Screen

Mario Vs Link - An Example Battle Screen

The Clear Screen - Those Coins Will Come In Handy Too

Masterpieces

Who doesn't love a little nostalgia? In an effort to tie together Nintendo's characters contained within SSB:Brawl and their respective games on the Virtual Machine, they have a section built-in called Masterpieces. This is basically a timed-trial mode for classic masterpieces such as Super Mario Brothers, Super Metroid, Star Fox 64, Kirby's Adventures, Ice Climbers, Kid Icarus, Legend of Zelda, and more.

Super Mario Brothers

Ice Climbers

The Legend of Zelda

Kid Icarus

Super Metroid

Stage Builder

Ever since the days of Excitebike I've been fascinated with being able to design my own levels. There is such an insane level of replayability that gets added to a game with this type of functionality added in. Just like the new Forge for Halo 3 and all of the Level Editors for PC games like Quake and Unreal Tournament, you'll be able to design and play in your own custom stages with SSB: Brawl.

It May Seem To Good To Be True But It Is!

Pick Your Basic Elements First...

Then The Real Fun Begins

You Can Place Elements and Terrain Wherever You'd Like

Then When You're Finished, Try It Out!

Modifications are needed? No Problem!

You Can Then Save, Name, and Comment Your Creation

Details Are Scarce Right now, But You Can Submit Your Maps To Nintendo Too
How The Distribution Will Work, Is Anyone's Guess Right Now

Let The Custom Brawling Commence!

That's it for this preview and while I couldn't possibly cover every single piece of content contained in Super Smash Brothers Brawl without the actual U.S. release in my hands (just yet), I've made sure to cover all of the super important areas. This game is definitely going to be worth the wait for all of you die-hard SSB fans out there and even newcomers to the series are going to be delighted with all of the mayhem that is bound to ensue.

The real question though is how hard it's going to be now to wait until March 9th, since you've had a tantalizing taste of what's to come with this new release in the series.

If you're telling yourself that the wait won't be all that hard, then watch the following video (which features the complete Opening Segment) and you'll likely change your mind. Just click the link below:

Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Preview Part 2

PART 2 of 3

US: March 9, 2008
Europe:
TBA 2008
Japan:
Out Now

Picking up right where we left off, I'm going to continue my coverage of the types of game modes that are available.

Brawl

The main mode of gameplay that most people will find themselves playing for years to come is the Brawl mode. This is the standard VS fighting mode that gamers have come to know and love from previous series. Of course the graphical interface is quite a bit "prettier" now.

The Brawl Character Selection Screen

Name Selection/Creation Screen

All CPU Brawlers Have a Grey Background

The New CPU Difficulty Slider... Price Is Right Style!

Lots Of New and Updated Item Additions This Time Around!

Team Mode Is Back and Even Cooler Looking Than Before!
Just Click The Flag In-Game To Change Teams

This Is The New Stage Selection Screen

Outside of the screens shown above there's not too much "extra" to the actual Brawl mode itself to talk about. There's a ton of additions to cover though, so let's continue!

Trophies

For the types of gamers out there that have become afflicted with the "Gotta Catch 'Em All" mentality, Nintendo has made sure to include a wildly updated version of their Trophy system into Brawl. Personally, I spent countless hours collecting coins in hopes of unlocking a new trophy in SSB:Melee so I'm pretty excited about this.

Look Familiar? This Is The Standard Trophy Viewing Screen

You Can Even Change The Lighting Mode Now!

The List Option Makes It Much Easier For Sorting Them

You Can Change The Background At Anytime! This Is A Sidewalk BG

Unlike Before, You Can Now Move Your Trophies Around

You Can Even Setup A Little Diorama Scene And Show It Off

Stadium: Target Smash

For the hardcore SSB:Melee players that enjoyed Target Smash before, you'll get to face an all new round of challenges in Brawl. For starters, the maps are designed to have an outdoor feel to offer a refreshing view, and there are five different layouts of evolving difficulty to conquer. One of the two most important changes however are the additions of being  able to record your run (and share it with your Wii Friends) and also being able to use items to assist you on your run. So gather up your speed-run addicted friends, I have a feeling you'll be making the best of the recording ability as you all strive for the best times to show off.

The new layouts and backgrounds are much more visually appeasing.

Here's a shot of the Item box I mentioned above

When you pause, you can see the entire map. Very Cool!

Surprise! The Recording Option Isn't Just Limited To Target Smash!

Save or Send Your Recorded Videos (About 3 Mins Each) To Anyone!

Stadium: Home Run Contest

The Home Run Contest in SSB:Melee was unenjoyable for me because I could never seem to damage the Sandbag fast enough without knocking it off the platform. However, this little minor annoyance has been fixed in Brawl and they even managed to add in a little two player action (both offline AND online).

Step 1: Mario Meets The Sandbag

Step 2: Mario Damages The Sandbag

Step 3: Mario SMASHES The Sandbag

Step 4: The Sandbag Flies Across The Stadium

Step 5: Mario Landed A Record Setting 302.4 Foot Distance

Here's the added Shield Wall To Stop The Sandbag From Falling

A Little 2-Player Mayhem Is Sure To Spice Things Up

You Can Even Compete Against A Second Player Instead Of With Them

Online Play Is Available In Both Competitive and Cooperative Modes

... and that's it for Part 2 of this 3 Part Preview. Due to the sheer volume of content in the game, I've decided to piece it into three separate journals. Keep checking back for the next round of updates and as always, I encourage everyone to share their thoughts.

Part 3 will be capping off this preview but there's sure to be some interesting tidbits and I'll be posting a special video that you may not have seen yet.

Until Next Time, Players!

Super Smash Brothers Brawl - Preview Part 1

PART 1 of 3

US: March 9, 2008
Europe:
TBA 2008
Japan:
Out Now

When I was growing up, Street Fighter (and eventually Mortal Kombat) was the King of Arcade Fighting games. I can't even begin to count how many quarters I managed to spend at my local arcade just to smash buttons with my buddies and our favorite fighters. As the games became more technical however, I began to realize that you had to either be Asian or completely A.D.D. to become the best of the best in your town... And that's about when I gave up fighting games altogether.

Fast forward to Super Smash Brothers Melee's release though (I never had the pleasure of playing the first SSB) and my addiction to virtual brawling had been renewed. Nintendo's always had this magical way of taking any type of gaming genre and flipping it on it's head; Super Mario Kart anyone? So it wasn't exactly hard to figure out why SSB:Melee was such a best seller.

Now that we're excruciatingly close to recieving our third dose of this maniacal fighting game, I decided there was no way I would pass up the chance to spread the word about what is sure to be one of, if not "the", best brawlers to hit in 2008.

Let's start off with our list of playable Brawlers though:

Newcomers:
(All names are linked to their image)

Diddy Kong
Ike
King Dedede
Lucas
Meta Knight
Captain Olimar and his Pikmin
Pit aka Kid Icarus
Pokemon Trainer and Pokemon
Snake (w/ His Trusty Cardboard Box)
Sonic The Hedgehog
Wario
Zero Suit Samus

Old Schoolers:
(All names are linked to their image)

Mario
Peach
Bowser
Donkey Kong
Fox
Ice Climbers
Kirby
Link
Pikachu
Samus
Shiek
Yoshi
Princess Zelda

.....

There's been some surprising additions this time around especially with the Sony-based Snake from the long running Metal Gear series. Sonic The Hedgehog has provided quite a shock too given his super-speedy nature, as most people are wondering how hard it will be to actually keep him on the stage. On the flip-side, seeing some of the fan favorites such as Shiek, Samus (and now her newly un-suited version), Link, Fox, and Pikachu is a welcome sight. Although I'm a little saddened about the departure of my personal favorites Gannondorf and Captain Falcon I'm staying hopeful that they'll make an appearance as unlockable characters. So now that you know who you'll be playing with, let's dig into what modes of play are available for you beat the pixels out your friends in.

Game Modes

As with any game, you'll start off at the infamous Start Menu before the mayhem can begin. As you can see from the screenshot, you'll be able to pick from Group Play (aka Multiplayer), Solo, your standard configuration and data management options, Vault - which is your Trophy Case from Melee but with sooooooo much more to do, and while I can't find any direct information yet about the online component of Super Smash Brothers Brawl, I can only assume the Nintendo
Wi-Fi Connection button is what ties into that functionality.

Special Brawl

Just like the name implies, Special Brawl allows you to set-up your battle for some of the wildest fights you've ever seen. Want to start off with the Bunny Ears, a Fast Game Speed, Fire-Hot Breathe (see: Curry), a Metal Body, and Mini-sized? You got it! Back in the Melee days all you could really do was Mega Battles, Lighting Fast Speed, Invisible Fights and the like, but with Brawl you get to mix and match till your heart's content. This all equates to replayability on a large scale when the basic battles become too much of a bore.

... and that's it for Part 1 of this 3 Part Preview. Due to the sheer volume of content in the game, I've decided to piece it into three seperate journals, but don't fret, they'll be posted in succession from now until Friday! Keep checking back for the next round of updates and as always, I encourage everyone to share their thoughts. I'm especially interested in knowing what characters you think should have made it into Brawl and perhaps what ones shouldn't have been cut.

Until Next Time, Players!

Halloween 8: The Shape With A Heart

It's been 29 years and 7 murderous sprees (Halloween 3 does NOT count) since "The Shape" started out his not-so-humble beginnings in Haddonfield Illinois. Ever since he got our blood pumping from watching his sibling rivalry unfold with Laurie Strode, Michael Myers has put fear and loathing in our hearts. It may have been awhile since we've heard or seen anything from this deranged psychopath but new video has just recently surfaced that shows what he's been up to... and the results are more creepy than that time he and Laurie came face to face with nothing but a window between them.

He's been spotted traipsing around the Buzznet Office trying to work a 9 to 5 job. Of course, we course the real shock to viewers will be his infatuation with the infamous Bree. Will their love be a match made in marketing heaven or will his jealousy and thirst for bloody mayhem leave him with a broken heart this time around?

You'll have to watch it to find out!

The Black Parade Review Contest Entry

Now come one come all to this tragic affair. Wipe off that makeup, what's in is despair!”

Since the creation of organized music every generation of humans have been drawn to one musician, or band because they seem to speak to us directly. These are the musicians that we can identify with, they know how to trigger our emotions from bringing us happiness or putting us into touch with our darker side. My Chemical Romance has become our generation's iconic heroes, and, The Black Parade is another exceptionally amazing example of why they hold such a place in our hearts.

Idlewild Track List

This was ripped from a post I made on www.Mixxer.com a few weeks ago. It's dated but still useful for those of you who haven't heard about the Idlewild soundtrack.

Outkast, that crazy-hot duo from Atlanta, has a new movie and a subsequent soundtrack coming out in a few weeks called Idlewild. The soundtrack will hit store shelves on August 22nd with the movie releasing the following Friday, August, 25th. With just a few weeks to go before the soundtrack is due in stores André and Big Boi have officially announced the tracklist.

In case you didn't know Idlewild is a musical set in the Prohibition-era American South, where a speakeasy performer and club manager Rooster (Big Boi) must contend with gangsters who have their eyes on the club while his piano player and partner Percival (André Benjamin) must choose between his love, Angel (Paula Patton) or his obligations to his father (Ben Vereen). The album is track-heavy but the boys in Outkast did have some trouble getting all the songs together as André explains. "This is probably the first musical that didn't have the music done before it was shot," Andre 3000 recently told Billboard. "That has been the biggest lesson I've learned in this whole thing. Next time, we'll do the music first."

Here is the official track listing:

  • "Intro"

  • "Mighty "O"

  • "Peaches" featuring Sleepy Brown & Scar

  • "Idlewild Blue (Don'tchu Worry 'Bout Me)"

  • "Infatuation (Interlude)"

  • "N2U" featuring Khujo Goodie

  • "Morris Brown" featuring Scar & Sleepy Brown

  • "Chronomentrophobia"

  • "The Train" featuring Scar & Sleepy Brown

  • "Life Is Like A Musical"

  • "No Bootleg DVDs (Interlude)"

  • "Hollywood Divorce" featuring Lil' Wayne & Snoop Dogg

  • "Zora (Interlude)"

  • "Call The Law" featuring Janelle Monae

  • "Bamboo & Cross (Interlude)"

  • "BuggFace"

  • "Makes No Sense At All"

  • "In Your Dreams" featuring Killer Mike & Janelle Monae

  • "PJ & Rooster"

  • "Mutron Angel" featuring Whild Peach

  • "Greatest Show On Earth" featuring Macy Gray

  • "You're Beautiful (Interlude)"

  • "When I Look In Your Eyes"

  • "Dyin' To Live"

  • "A Bad Note"

Buzznet - Flyleaf - Family Values Tour Boston Re-Cap

[This is a long blog and it was/is being typed out across a few hours. Any missing words, grammatical mistakes, or spelling errors will be fixed when I have time to proof-read it]

Hey Hey Hey....

Now that the exhaustion has faded out of my system I'm ready to rock everyone's world with a re-cap of my trip to Boston to see some of the world's best rock and metal bands at the Family Values Tour, and my meet and greet with THE best new rock band, Flyleaf.

Let's begin...

After working a few hours on Friday I rushed home to finish packing, it was like seeing a child storming through a Toys'R'Us store with a handful of cash. I drove home so fast it seemed like a blur. When I was finally ready to go the butterflies started floating around my stomach, but trust me it was nowhere near as bad as it was sitting there waiting to meet Flyleaf.

Once I arrived at the airport I did the usual security check and all that fun stuff. I made my way to the gate only to find out there was a massive storm in Boston and all flights into and out of Logan International were on a ground hold. We were also closely approaching the critical eight-hour window for our pilots who had been flying all day. After a pilot has flown 8 hours in one day the FAA requires them to stop. So we had to get in the air before that time was met. Thankfully I found a Subway to help my hunger pangs and keep my mind off the possibility that I wouldn't make it to Boston. After about 45 minutes they announced we were clear to fly and so we were off to northeast. Which I must say, flying at dusk is one of the most beautiful things a person can experience, the sky is just magnificent looking from that high up while the sun is setting to the West.

When we landed in East Boston I quickly assembled my stuff and headed for the Budget Car Rental. I then decided to hit up downtown Boston for some food before making the 45 minute trek south to my hotel in Foxboro. If you've never been to Boston, you truly have no idea how incredibly aggresive the drivers there are or really how bad the traffic is period. I partially credit their driving style to the horribly laid out transportation system though. I thought Chicago was bad, but Boston really takes the cake.

I left Boston between 12:30 am and 1:00 am. In no way amI lying about this next part, I didn't arrive at my hotel until 4:00 am. That's just how incredibly difficult it is to navigate through Boston and the rest of Massachusetts. I can't even put it into words as to why it's difficult, but people who live there know what I'm talking about with the highways and proximity of signs to the exits. Not to mention the distinct confusion and multitude of those signs. It's just a horrible place to go for first-timers... a taxi is totally the way to go there.

Now on to the better news... I arrived at my hotel, checked in, and was utterly amazed at how great the place was. Buzznet put me up in the Marriott in Foxboro (the ones with the suites). I settled in, crashed, and tried to fight the adrenaline and excitement that was keeping me awake so I could sleep a few hours before the show.

I really could NOT sleep, so I headed down for breakfast at the hotel, which was pretty good actually. Then I showered up, changed, and realized how early it still was. I decided to take a nap [or try to anyway]. I woke about 2:00, called the photographer from Buzznet and headed out to Mansfield. I found the place pretty quickly [daylight driving rocks], hit up the McD's for a quarter pounder meal [5.50!! food in MA is too expensive], and then finished up with a quick trip to the local grocery in the same parking lot. I grabbed a Red Bull and some kleenexes [I was fighting a slight sinus/cold problem], and then went to look for parking at the venue. When I rolled up I heard Deadsy finishing up their set - which sucked because that's twice I missed Walls of Jericho and Deadsy. I headed over to the check-in area and strode proudly up to the Band Guest List ticket window. I nabbed my mainstage pass and ticket and then went in to the roaring show.

After making a few phone calls I went over and watched Bury Your Dead finishing their set. The band has this incredible amount of energy and I managed to get a few pictures of them before I was to head over to get the meet and greet with Flyleaf underway. At this point my nervousness wat at an all-time high. I could almost feel my legs buckling under the absolute anticipation and excitement of meetnig the band.

I went to the backstage gate and waited for my escort, the band's tour manager's assistant. We talked for a few until Andrew [Buzznet's Photographer] arrived. He then suited me up with a microphone, did some audio testing, and filmed me doing an intro for the interview. A few minutes later, Scotty Rock the band's tour manager greeted us. The guy has this total rockstar look but was incredibly nice. He filled me in on the details for the meet and greet and then took us back.

Every step I took felt surreal at that point, my heart started racing, my hands got a little clammy, and I almost thought I was going to pass out. It was too much to take in, I was about to meet Flyleaf... the first time I'd ever met a group of people that were that big... I think all in all it was the feeling that maybe I wouldn't know what to say or that I would say something embarassing that kept me on the edge of sanity for those 40 steps to their dressing room.

When I rounded the corner, there they were... Lacey, Pat, Sameer, James, and Jared. They smiled, I smiled, we all shook hands, and then I was completely overtaken with this awe-struck grin. I think they knew I was nervous as hell, but in a way they seemed a little out of their element too. It was comforting in a way... as I kept telling them how exciting this all was and how shaky I felt, they kept telling me it's ok, etc. They were humble and that was great. I then recieved my Virgin Mobile Kyocera Slider Sonic phone and the we kicked off the interview since they were due on stage right after Dir en Grey was finished with their set.

I ran through nine of my ten questions which they all answered quite thoughtfully and again they were very humble about their success when it came to questions concerning that. You'll really have to see the video to get the full effect, but they were incredibly easy to interview since they seemed to be as honored to be interviewed as I was to be interviewing them.

Once the interview concluded everyone shook my hand and thanked for coming out, and I did the same. Lacey agreed to talk to my friend Thomas as well, he's the one who got me interested in the band, so it was a real honor for him to get to talk to her. Then Pat and Jared talked to him too. It was a-mazing, seriously.

I headed out with the Buzznet guys soon after so the band could get ready for their set. Since I had a mainstage pass they told me I could be on stage to watch the band play. I swung out there to catch Dir en Grey, since I missed 10 Years. When we came back as they were about to go live, security told me [very rudely] that I needed to have an escort from the band's tour management. So I tried to grab Scotty but he was too far away and he also couldn't hear his phone. I walked out with one very big sadface and watched them play from my seat in the lower pavilion.

I guess Scotty and the Buzznet crew came to find me right after I left to bring me on stage but I was angry about the security so I didn't think to wait around for them. I figured I would only end up missing seeing Flyleaf play. Sadly I kinda missed them playing live because I was so bummed about how things turned out with the backstage thing. For the record it wasn't part of the promotion or anything, it was an added bonus that came with my photo pass and that the band was totally going to honor.

When their set finished, I went for a walk, humming the tracks along in my head, and making phone calls to tell everyone how wicked my day was so far. I then came back and watched Stone Sour play which was honestly pretty awesome. Then one of my other long-time favorite bands came out, the Deftones. Chino proved he still has the fire needed to light the crowd on fire and continued to do so throughout their whole set.

After they finished their set the tour's founders came out... KORN!

I saw them a week previous to this event so I knew what to expect but being that close to the stage it was like a brand new experience. One that was harder, heavier, and a thousand times more crazy. I got soaked by the fire hose Jonathon Davis brought out, I slammed my head, jumped, threw my fists into the air, and generally rocked the f**k out to one of their best live sets ever performed.

I decided to leave about 15 minutes early so I could beat the traffic going towards my hotel, which was still futile since I got lost AGAIN. After driving around for about an hour trying to find the right direction to my hotel I stopped for directions and finally got set in the right direction. I grabbed a Dominos Pizza on the way and then slept till like 10:30 am on Sunday. I checked out of my hotel about 12:10 pm and then went out to venture around Boston before heading to the airport. The downtown Boston area was horrible for finding a parking spot, so I finally spent 10 bucks after driving another hour and a half trying to find Government Square and somewhere to park.

It seems like most of my weekend was spent being lost, =[ I had a killer time though, meeting Flyleaf was one of the coolest moments in my entire lifetime, and seeing all the historical places in Boston was second to that.

I can't thank Buzznet, Flyleaf, Kyocera, and Virgin Mobile enough. I am eternally grateful and hopefully I'll have the chance to meet the band again, as they have been a huge source of inspiration for me.

I'm Baaaack

Hey Everyone,

I'm back from the trip to Boston. It was a fantastic time to say the least. I'm utterly exhausted! I'm going to try uploading all the pics today, and I apologize for not sending the ones I took with the new phone at the show, I didn't think to read the directions and sent the pictures to the wrong place, =[

I'll be getting all the pics from the phone and my camera up asap as well as a re-cap as soon as I can.

9.11 - My Weekend (Korn) - My Birthday - And More

I have a ton of work to do today but I wanted to take a minute to drop some thoughts out there on the digital landscape.

Today is the 5th anniversary of 9.11 - granted I feel dirty saying Anniversary since those are usually happy occasions, not somber ones. It's been five years and it feels like it has been a lot longer. Five years ago today I was hyped up about turning 21 on 9.12 and nothing could have brought me down from that high. Until I turned on the TV and saw the news that morning. Which was only exacerbated more as I was stuck on 465, everyone was practically at a standstill both west and east bound on the northside. It was surreal as I turned to Q95 (99.5 and 93.1 were playing music), and heard Bob and Tom in almost complete silence, only conversing in tones near a whisper. It was going to be a dark day despite the gleaming sun outside.

The news of the second plane hitting, the pentagon being hit, and then the United Flight that went down in PA was utterly surreal. As I looked around I saw the same grim face on everyone stopped around me. We were all entrenched in our cars, listening intently to our radios, and with cell phones glued to our ears calling our loved ones and friends. Wanting to find out more info, wanting to know if everyone was safe, wanting to tell them where we were in case Indy was attacked next.

I remember looking into the sky that day and knowing not a single airplane was flying across the United States and thinking about how creepy that was. How badly the attacks had affected us. This was the first time that I actually felt the blow of a disaster... floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, and the first WTC attack all came at a younger age when I was more concerned with my toys than what was going on across the country or overseas. The only other time I had felt anything near that much grief was when Princess Diana passed away. The WTC attacks hit close to home though.... 9 hours away (driving).. and I started to rapidly think about all the things in Indiana that could be targets. How our state is the "Crossroads of America".

It was scary, surreal, surreptitous even... It was a day that still haunts me five years later and will continue to haunt me fifty years from now.

Korn Family Values

The Korn Family Values Show was quite honestly the best concert of my lifetime. It was better than Ozzfest and Warped Tour and Family Values 99 combined. Flyleaf, Stone Sour, Deftones, Korn, and 10 Years absolutely effing killed the crowd with their songs. Dir En Gray was a bit too exotic and bloody for my tastes, with the lead singer cutting his gums and spewing blood. The shock value was appreciated but it was only there to compliment the music (which I thought was modest at best). It wasn't like Marilyn Manson... done in good form to show you how fucking crazy he is. It was just imposterish.

I moshed, I slammed my head, I threw sod, I got owned by sod being thrown, I pulled a girl off a guy she was beating the fsck out of, and best of all I rocked out to the best rock bands of the century alongside the coolest motherfuckers I know: My brother Randy, DJ 100 Proof, Terra, Eric, Eric's Girl, Justen, Mallory, Sean Cary, Christie, and Taryn. Although Christie and Taryn left us for the safety of the pavilion. I can't blame though because when Stone Sour came out, the freshly laid sod went effing flying. From front to back, side to side, and into the pavilion, it was the biggest sod war I've ever seen. It was also the best birthday present I've ever received, regardless of how much it cost.

Boston

I leave Friday for Boston and to be honest I'm weary that the show will be cooler than what was in Indy. Meeting Flyleaf will be the honor of a lifetime, but the madness that ensued at the Indy show will be hard to forget when I look out at the lawn and see everyone rocking out without the sky not being full of flying dirt, grass, and rocks. I'm pretty effin excited though about getting out there to see the history that's engrained in the city, and meeting one of the best rock bands in the U.S. right now. I really can't thank the band and Buzznet.com enough for the opportunity.

Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas

Regardless of whether or not you've seen the movie, go buy this book (or get it from your local library). It's quite honesty the best read I've had in awhile (next to Masters of Doom). It's a masterpiece and I can't wait to pick up more books from the late Hunter S. Thompson.

DefCon 2006 happened on June 9th, but this just came to my attention. See how many you can solve without using the walkthroughs. If you make it past any of the Forensics (or lower) section(s) then I applaud you tremendously.

Hump Day Is Upon US

I'm enjoying it in a few ways....

I found this lovely new thing called a Kolache (http://www.kolachefactory.com/). They have one here in Indy. The breakfast ones fuggin rock. I'm going to hit it up for lunch and try the Pizza one.

I'm working of course, but on my break I'm reading Masters of Doom (based on John Romero, John Carmack, and id Software). It's one of the most engaging books I've ever read. For once it's a book I'm trying to read at every free moment.

Also I'm listening to the String Quartet Tribute to System of a Down's Mesmerize. I'm fucking dying to get their other albums now, although I'm broke as hell (haha like usual).

Best Man Speech - From My Bro's Wedding

The famous Bruce Lee was once quoted as saying,

"Love is like a friendship caught on fire.
In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering.
As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable."

For a man who was better known for his acting and martial arts skills, than his philosophical meanderings it stands to be said that he was a genius. This is one of my favorite quotes of all time and probably the best way I've ever heard someone describe what true love really is.

Just like Randy and Christie... we are here celebrating their marriage today because the flame in their relationship has burned long enough to prove that nothing in this world can extinguish it. As many of you in this room can attest, love is a very, very powerful thing. More powerful than money  or anything else in this world, and once it's sunk it's teeth in there is no letting go.

I couldn't have chosen a better sister-in-law either. Being my brother and all, I know Randy can be a handful sometimes, hahaha, we may not have grown up together but I know we're both wild and crazy. All jokes aside though, I'm very proud of both them on this special day, and I look forward to both of them being in my life for a very long time to come.

I just want you two to remember how special this day was to you both when times get rough. Because as the old proverb goes, a moment lasts all of a second, but the memory lives on forever and the heart that truly loves never forgets.

I love you both and wish you the best in the years to come.

Death: Art and Affliction

So there are things going on in my life right now and I haven't told many people what's up. I haven't even told a single living, breathing soul how I feel about it all either. So as per the usual, here we go.

Death: One of my ferrets [Dakota] is terminally ill with Adrenal Gland Cancer. She's wasting away faster and faster every day and I've been putting off [consciously and non] having her put to sleep. Death has always been this dirty little secret with me. I hold back my feelings, I deal with it, and I move on. I don't let others know how I feel and in the end I think I do more damage to my psyche than if I would just let it out and be human about it.

Having a pet die is obviously never easy and it's not like I've had much time with her. I work a lot, I go out a lot, and since she about 2-3 years old I've found myself not really playing with her as much. In a sense having her put to sleep is the best thing since a.) she's sick and dying and b.) I can't be there to comfort her.

I think some part of me however feels like I need to make up for lost time before I let go. Maybe not... I don't know to be honest. I'm going to be taking her tonight to have her laid to rest, but I don't quite know how to react to it all.

In similar news and this one contains ****SPOILERS FOR 6FU****

Nathaniel Fisher [Nate] died in Six Feet Under near the end of Season 5. Most of you know this if you've already seen the show, but hopefully noone who is just starting the show is reading this section. I'm on episode 8 or 9 of Six Feet under with a few episodes to go and I can already feel the emotions building up for the finale. It all ties into my own beliefs and feelings like I mentioned above. Except this time around I feel like this character was my best friend. Through the show's writers he educated and enlightened me over the past 50 some episodes. I feel in love with his character's demeanor, choices, personality, etc. Seeing him die was like a blow to the face and without an apology afterwards. I watched the preview for the next episode and yeah I know I'm going to be in tears tonight.

What's funny though is how James can't process any type of emotion or feeling for people like I do. He's like a cold-hearted child who still gets a smile on his face when he steps on a bug. I was trying to talk about the show with him last night and he just started fucking with me. Obviously I lost my temper and he started the whole "you're a bitch guilt-trip" for my outburst.

Sometimes though I just wish I could get out of my situation and into something with someone who is educated, understanding, and can be there to help cater to my, dare I say, sensitive side. Wishful thinking that's been going on for over 4 years now. So I'm not going to even go into it.

Life: In a total contrasting view to my previous few comments, let's move on to what's happening on the happier side of things.

[Hahaha, as Deathcab For Cutie - I will follow you into the dark, comes on. LOL].

My brother Randy and his fiance Christie are getting married this upcoming weekend. I'm nervous as all hell because I want everything to go right. I don't think anything will go wrong, but when you've missed almost your whole life being with someone, you expect the happiest day of their life with you to go off without a hitch.

So I'm going to be the best man at the wedding and I need to come up with a speech for the reception. It's more of a I want to kinda thing than I am expected to. I'm getting writer's block for the first time in my life because there's so much I've missed out on Randy's life and to be honest I don't want that to be the focus of my discussion. I don't have a boatload of memories to touch on though, so we'll have to see how it comes out. I'll probably post it on here after the wedding so you all can see how good or bad it turns out.

On the same side of the token, I get to see a lot of my family that I haven't seen in weeks, months, years, or even since right after I was born. I don't know how I'm going to hold up around that much emotion either. I've been so touch-and-go lately with things. I've been shall I say, "fragile".

My emotional barrier walls are down and have been down for the past few months. I think Six Feet Under softened me up a little too because it's hard to watch a show like that and not walk away with a head full of deep thoughts and emotions to process.

All in all, I think I'm happy though. I've been enjoying my time with my friends like Jacob, [Brian] Cooper, Timmah, Brandt, Trila, Amanda, Nich, Keith, Jason, and my family. My network of friends is the largest it's ever been and while I can't see some of them as much as I'd like to... [justnate, thomas, terra, laura, etc] it's nice knowing they are waiting in the wings for me.

Anyway.... I've rambled on enough. I feel better though [a little] so it was worth blowing 15 minutes on writing.
